The Sweeping HIPAA Legislation and Its Repercussions

- In 1996, Congress passed the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) which had immediate repercussions involving changes in the scope and enforcement of Fraud & Abuse investigations nationwide, and promised future concerns in the ares of security, privacy and transmission of electronic patient data. This session will provide a brief introduction to HIPAA, its current impact on healthcare administrators, and a review of what long term implications may be expected. A panel will follow the address to further amplify the implications for AAMAs members.
