American College of Neuroscience Administrators – ACNA
AAMA initiated development of the American College of Neuroscience Administrators (ACNA) in 2011 to serve the targeted educational programming, credentials and problem-solving needs of specialists in the broad field of neuroscience administration.
History
The organization of comprehensive neuroscience services into a formal service line is fairly new in the healthcare arena, but is growing at a very rapid pace due to its impact on those organizations. In addition, there wasn’t much in the way of literature and publication to build upon – other than stroke or neurosurgery – neither of which was organized together.
With that in mind, in late 2010 several Neuroscience leaders from across the United States approached the AAMA leadership about this professional need. In late 2011 after several exploratory meetings to discuss the need for and importance of providing a venue for these new Neuroscience leaders to share experiences and challenges, and to provide opportunities for networking, a survey of current AAMA members was conducted to determine interest. Based on those initial discussions and the level of interest of current AAMA members, the development of the American College of Neuroscience Administrators (ACNA) was initiated.
ACNA has grown in two short years from 14 initial members to over 100 members with a vast diversity of backgrounds and roles (as can be seen below).
As defined the following Mission, Vision and Values statements, ACNA is designed to serve the targeted educational programming, credentials and problem-solving needs of specialists in the broad field of neuroscience administration.
The ACNA is one of six colleges within AAMA and our mission, vision and goals are:
- Mission: To advance excellence in neuroscience leadership and the business of neuroscience (service lines) administration, through individual relationships, multi-disciplinary interaction, ongoing education and active engagement
- Vision: to be the recognized catalyst for inspiring neuroscience administrators to advance themselves in positions of leadership and enhance the business of neuroscience service line administration.
- Values:
- Integrity in Leadership
- Innovation and collaboration in Neuroscience Service Line Development
- Respect for Individual Expertise & Knowledge
- Commitment to the Organization, its Mission, Vision & Values
