The 40th Annual Conference and Convocation of the American Academy of Medical Administrators will be held on November 5-8, 1997 in Orlando, Florida. Also featured will be the American College of Cardiovascular Administrators’ Management Conference and the American College of Oncology Administrators’ 6th Annual National Symposium. These conferences are co-sponsored by the American Hospital Association, Health Technology Assessment.
November 5th will feature optional pre-conference educational tracks for Federal healthcare affiliates including three modules of the Executive Management Education (EME) Courses – a joint effort of the Bureau of Medicine & Surgery and The Naval Postgraduate School. November 6th is Federal Day with a keynote address by Larry Tyler on “Transitioning from Military to Civilian Healthcare” and other educational tracks. An ACOA/ACCA optional pre-conference program on Thursday afternoon, November 6th will feature Ira M. Byock, MD. Dr. Byock’s presentation is entitled “Beyond the Physician-Assisted Suicide Debate: Building Positive Clinical & Social Alternatives.” Following the presentation, Arthur T. Porter, MD will moderate a panel discussion featuring Dr. Byock and Geoffrey N. Fieger, JD, attorney for Jack Kevorkian. Friday, November 7th begins with the Navy Fun Run at 6:30 am. The opening General Sessions of the Academy, ACOA and ACCA conferences feature keynote speakers Russell C. Coile and the Nycomed Cardiovascular Award for Excellence Winner. Friday afternoon and Saturday morning each have nine tracks from which to select topics on general management, cardiovascular management, oncology management, managed care, home healthcare, rehabilitation, orthopedic and neurological care, and information technology. Optional post-conference sessions on Saturday also feature “Advanced Managed Care Positioning,” “Creating a Center of Excellence for Cardiac Care,” and “Disease Management – A Better Alternative to Managed Care.” The Convocation Ceremony, when affiliates advance to Member, Fellow and Diplomate in Healthcare Administration, will be held beginning at 6:00 pm on Friday, November 6th.The featured speaker will be Kenneth Kasses, Ph.D., President of Du Pont Merck Radiopharmaceuticals. The Chairman’s Reception for all conference attendees will follow the Convocation Ceremony. |
