American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer  (ACOS-CoC) Liaison Report – June 2006

Online Education Center

The Commission on Cancer has implemented an Online Education Center for cancer programs offering CoC and AJCC-related presentations.  These are synchronized audio and slides, and a written transcript that can be accessed from home or office.  The format offers you the opportunity to view at your own pace, stop and start as needed, and view as often a you’d like.  There is a fee for the sessions and continuing education credit is available.  This new resource provides an option for cancer registry staff to meet Standard 7.2 relating to cancer registry staff education.  To meet compliance for this standard, all members of the cancer registry staff participate in a local, state, regional, or national cancer-related educational activity annually. Utilizing the Online Education Center allows multiple staff to participate, avoid travel expenses and time away from the department.  For more information on this educational tool, go to http://www.facs.org/cancer/webcast/index.html and review the list of presentations along with details on how to register.

The ACoS-CoC Report was prepared by ACOA/ACoS-CoC liaison, Jeannie O’Leary.  Her role as liaison is to enhance our relationship and collaboration by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas, initiatives, critical issues, and actions that impact cancer care, data collection, and research.  We have the opportunity to bring matters of importance for ACOA to the CoC, as well as communicate CoC activities to the ACOA.  If you have input on particular issues regarding credentialing and ACoS standards, please contact Jeannie O’Leary.
