American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACOS-CoC) Liaison Report – October 2005
Any CoC-Approved Cancer Program affected by the catastrophic events caused by Hurricane Katrina should have their registrar or a designated person contact the CoC office to discuss its facilities situation. The CoC has identified several areas for which affected cancer programs in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama will receive special consideration:
- 2005 and 2006 surveys
- Cancer program activity and Standard compliance
- Completion of the SAR Annual update
- The NCDB September 1, 2005 deadline for 2003 corrections
- The NCDB Call for Data (2004 cases)
Each facility’s situation will be considered on a case-by-case basis. For a list of CoC-Approved Cancer Programs that they believe may have been affected, log on to www.facs.org.
The ACoS-CoC Report was prepared by ACOA/ACoS-CoC liaison, Jeannie O’Leary. Her role as liaison is to enhance our relationship and collaboration by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas, initiatives, critical issues, and actions that impact cancer care, data collection, and research. We have the opportunity to bring matters of importance for ACOA to the CoC, as well as communicate CoC activities to the ACOA. If you have input on particular issues regarding credentialing and ACoS standards, please contact Jeannie O’Leary.
