American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACOS-CoC) Liaison Report
More than 80 percent of CoC State Chairs are actively involved in the
development and/or implementation of their state’s cancer plan, and they are
encouraging their state cancer teams to include objectives that invovle the
CoC and the delivery of quality care at CoC-Approved Programs within their
states. Currently six states-Connecticut, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Nebraska,
Louisiana, and New Jersey-have already included specific strategies that ensure the provision of quality services by referral to CoC-Approved Programs. Complete versions of these six state cancer plans can be viewed at http://www.cdc.gov/cancer/ncccp/index.htm.
The ACoS-CoC Report was prepared by ACOA/ACoS-CoC liaison, Jeannie O’Leary. Her role as liaison is to enhance our relationship and collaboration by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas, initiatives, critical issues, and actions that impact cancer care, data collection, and research. We have the opportunity to bring matters of importance for ACOA to the CoC, as well as communicate CoC activities to the ACOA. If you have input on particular issues regarding credentialing and ACoS standards, please contact Jeannie O’Leary.
