Durham Regional Hospital, a 369-bed acute care hospital and member of the world-renowned Duke University Health System, is seeking a Director of Medical Staff.

Serving as an essential link between senior management and medical staff, you’ll direct daily activities, hire/train staff, assign work, evaluate performance, direct the preparation/coordination of resident/staff call schedules, prepare physician performance evaluations/department budget, create/maintain quality assessment and peer review/credentialing database, and compile continuing education units. This position coordinates extender rotations, directs continuing ed activities, supervises compilation of evaluations, coordinates call room maintenance and assignments, communicates with affiliating institutions, prepares quarterly quality assessment reports, recommends rules/monitors compliance, and helps with physician recruitment and staff orientation.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a health-related discipline (Master’s preferred); 5 years’ experience in hospital or medical staff functions with an emphasis on performance improvement activities (or equivalent combination); extensive experience working with physicians; thorough knowledge of hospital functions, organization, medical staff requirements/functions, and management principles; decision-making skills; and the ability to supervise staff, work independently, deal with a variety of strong personalities, thrive in an intense environment, and establish/maintain effective working relationships.
