American College of
Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACOS-CoC) Liaison Report - January
2006
As you plan your 2006-07 budget be sure
to include either attendance at the Commission on Cancer's "Survey Savvy
Workshop for Cancer Programs", which is held in Chicago twice a year for
two days. Attendance at the workshop provides the opportunity for
networking with cancer program leaders from around the country, benefiting
from the question and answer periods and a comprehensive syllabus.
If you are short on time and budget, purchase the
workshop on CD for $150. This is an excellent orientation to the
accreditation process as well as a valuable review and update for seasoned
registrars and program coordinators, especially if you have a survey coming
up in the next year. The CD includes video/audio presentations and 45
sample Best Practices for Chapters 2-8. Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) and
Physician CE and CME credit hours are available with use of the CD.
To order the CD, log on to
http://www.facs.org/commerce/2004/catsplash.html, access the Cancer
section of the Publications and Services catalog, or call 312/202-5474.
The ACoS-CoC Report was prepared by ACOA/ACoS-CoC liaison, Jeannie O’Leary.
Her role as liaison is to enhance our relationship and collaboration by
providing a forum for the exchange of ideas, initiatives, critical issues,
and actions that impact cancer care, data collection, and research. We have
the opportunity to bring matters of importance for ACOA to the CoC, as well
as communicate CoC activities to the ACOA. If you have input on particular
issues regarding credentialing and ACoS standards, please contact
Jeannie O’Leary.
